Community-designed innovation districts have the ability to pivot distressed communities into self-sufficient and sustainable hubs for innovation and economic development.
The purpose of the Community Innovation Design Program is to provide a clear process for community-designed and -led development, a process driven by diverse group of community members and owners to identify, engage, and attract new and emerging areas for regional innovation and growth. By starting with place, inclusion, and innovation in the design of an innovation district or regional plan, the program counteracts the standard challenges of an innovation district through a co-designed plan that prioritizes the people, existing assets, and opportunities.
This model can be incorporated by a variety of stakeholder groups, including individuals in a neighborhood, a neighborhood or association of neighborhoods, or by a Chamber and community improvement district.
